Rain Fails to Dampen Spirits as Indian Mela 2026 Delights Adelaide

Victoria Square in Adelaide transformed into a sea of color, music, and celebration as the Indian Australian Association of South Australia (IAASA) hosted its highly anticipated Indian Mela 2026.
Despite light rain and grey skies throughout the day, thousands of attendees turned out with umbrellas in hand to experience one of South Australia’s most beloved multicultural gatherings.
Highlights of the Event
- Cultural Performances: The main stage featured a diverse lineup showcasing India’s rich traditions. Audience members enjoyed intricate classical dances such as Bharatanatyam and Kathak, alongside high-energy Bollywood dance routines that had the crowd moving along.
- Flavors of India: Food stalls offered a wide range of authentic dishes, including crispy samosas, spicy chaat, butter chicken, biryani, and freshly made jalebis.
- Artisan Stalls & Henna: Visitors explored a lively marketplace filled with traditional attire, handcrafted jewelry, home decor, henna art, and regional artifacts, along with booths highlighting local community services.
- Family Fun: The event catered to all ages, featuring children’s rides, interactive activities, and family-friendly entertainment.
Bipartisan Support & Community Recognition
The event drew significant attendance from political leaders, highlighting the strong community ties and contributions of the Indian diaspora in South Australia.
- Hon Peter Malinauskas MP, Premier of South Australia, attended the festival and addressed the crowd, announcing key government commitments to support multicultural initiatives and community engagement.
- Hon Zoe Bettison MP also addressed attendees, commending the organizers and participants.
- Representatives from both the Australian Labor Party and the Liberal Party of Australia were present, reflecting strong bipartisan backing for the annual celebration.
Through rain and shine, the resilience of the performers, vendors, and attendees made Indian Mela 2026 a resounding success.
