Inspired by the matriarchs who hold our migrant communities together—the yiayias, tétas, aunties, and elders—Big Aunty Energy is a vibrant, family-friendly arts and cultural festival coming to Marrickville Town Hall on Sunday, 13 June 2027.
Celebrating the rich heritage of Sydney’s Inner West Greek and Middle Eastern and North African (MENA) communities, this community gathering honours the tradition keepers who preserve history, pass down stories, and foster cross-cultural connections.
What’s On
The four-hour festival offers an interactive and lively lineup for all ages, featuring:
- Live Performances: Music and dance highlighting traditional and contemporary roots.
- Cultural Workshops & Cooking Demonstrations: Learn classic recipes and artisanal heritage techniques.
- Makers Market & Community Bake Sale: Browse unique handmade crafts and sample homemade delicacies.
- Traditional Experiences: Enjoy unique cultural insights, including Greek coffee cup reading.
- Heritage Walk (Proposed): A guided walk exploring Marrickville’s rich migrant history and local cultural landmarks (subject to funding).
