The ‘Upu Collective’ from New Zealand have prepared powerful poetry, compelling storytelling and unforgettable performances, bringing the ocean’s rich voices to life. They’re going to also explore the cultural struggle, joy and identity across the islands.
They’re making a return as they had a successful sold out show at the Sydney Opera House. UPU returns with an Australian tour starting in Parramatta , after captivating audiences around the world , including a landmark eight-city tour across Canada. Parramatta audiences will have the opportunity to experience the acclaimed UPU Collective when its celebrated theatre production arrives in Western Sydney. UPU, meaning “word” in many Pacific languages, brings together powerful poetry, storytelling, and performance from across the Pacific region.
Created by the UPU Collective, the production celebrates the voices, histories, and identities of Pacific peoples. Through spoken word, music, movement, and striking visual elements, the performance explores themes of culture, belonging, resilience, and connection to the ocean.
